What is the social/environmental problem/issue that this project will address?
• Reduce anti social behaviour by involving excluded pupils and youth offenders in building work.
• Enhance skills and employability by offering practical based training and volunteering opportunities.
• Promote sustainable solutions from materials used, to building techniques to water saving to being off grid
• Promote social inclusion, offering opportunities for everyone to work, cook and eat together
Can you give us some statistics on this problem?
Moulsecoomb Forest Garden and Wildlife Project is based on the outskirts of Brighton serving a community that is the bottom 5% of deprivation in the country.

What is your solution?
For nearly 20 years we have grown into an award-winning and well respected small charity that works with some of the cities most disadvantaged youngsters.
For pupils referred to us, school is not working. We offer an outdoor education, tailored to pupils’ specific needs and away from the classroom environment. These pupils learn best by doing practical hands-on work and can blossom when provided with a different style of teaching.
We engage students with the environment and nature through a therapeutic process: building confidence, motivation and self-esteem, whilst raising awareness of the natural world. This work and the qualifications we can offer helps young people into employment, work experience, apprenticeships or further training as well as helping improve their school work and attendance.

How will you deliver this?
We have an experienced builder and an apprentice who have been carrying out the building work. Pupils and volunteers have also been helping out with tasks such as building the cord wood walls.
