More about the project

What is the social/environmental problem/issue that this project will address?
Most adults and young people do not know how to manage an emergency situation. This course not only teaches the LIFE SKILL of first aid, but gives you the ability to have experience of accident situations and the skill to then put a plan into action. Every individual needs this skill and by educating young people to educate each other, the skill can be made more widely accessible.
Can you give us some statistics on this problem?
Thousands of people are dying each year in situations where first aid could have made the difference. This includes nearly 900 people who choke to death, 2,500 who asphyxiate from a blocked airway and 29,000 who die from heart attacks.
What is your solution?
Train young people to learn how to save lives, so they in turn can go on to teach others
How will you deliver this?
SCY will train 20 young people in first aid, then facilitate further workshops run by our young people within the community and wider area.

About the organisation

Vision and mission

SCY supports vulnerable young people in Brixton, South London. Brixton alone has become a hub of vibrant activity with not only extremely busy streets, roads but also continues to have some of the highest levels of youth violence. If young people became educated in the requirements of saving a life, we believe this skill will help to reduce inter group aggression.

Geographical coverage

Within a city/shire
